The approximately 39,375 kilometers calculated by Eratosthenes nearly matches modern measurements. The currently accepted value is 40,075 kilometers. Achieving such an accurate calculation in such an ancient era was a feat that pushed the boundaries of human intellect.
During the Middle Ages, Islamic scholars carried this legacy even further. In the 9th century, the House of Wisdom (Bayt al-Hikma), established by Caliph al-Ma’mun in Baghdad, brought together the brightest minds of the era.
